The high school's new elective class, "Citizens in Action," is currently researching community issues of interest with the goal of speaking with residents, businesses, and political leaders in an effort to better understand chosen focus issues. Some of the issues of interest to the students include mental health, factors that contribute to sports disparities between boys and girls, the accessibility of housing in Johnson City and Binghamton, and the extent students might be impacted by the lack of diverse lunch and breakfast options (Kosher, vegetarian, etc..).
Today, the students practiced interview questions with their classmates. Ultimately, students who successfully complete their project will be awarded the new NYS Seal of Civic Readiness.
Citizens in Action is taught by English Teacher Dr. Donna Geetter and Social Studies Teacher Judy Gleason.
