Citizens in Action students present at professional development meeting

Citizens in ActionOn April 25, juniors Emery Guzyk, Tosin Benson, Alyssa Kelleher, Emma Phelan, and senior Bella Cobb from the Citizens in Action class presented their project, The Power of Knowledge: Bridging the Gap Between Gender and Performance, to a meeting of the Chapter IV New York State Athletic Administrators Association. This professional development meeting included athletic directors and athletic-related professionals from around our section. It was an opportunity for these students to share findings from the research they’ve conducted throughout this school year, as well as to propose ideas for action related to that research.

Following their presentation, the students answered questions and enjoyed a robust discussion of future action related to their research. This included exciting opportunities to present their work in other school districts to various audiences, such as coaches and student-athletes. The presentation is part of these students’ progress toward the Seal of Civic Readiness, a NYS designation awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency and commitment to civic knowledge, skills, mindset, and experiences.

To learn more about their presentation and others, please join us for our first annual Johnson City Civics Fair tomorrow, April 30, from 4-6 p.m. in the JCHS cafeteria!
