On March 11, students from our high school's Street Law class and Debate Club were invited to the Broome County Courthouse to be present as the New York State Court of Appeals held court and listened to several cases. Except in cases involving a federal question, where the Supreme Court of the United States has the last word, the Court of Appeals makes the final statement of decisional law in New York State.
The classes were joined by fellow students from Union-Endicott, Bainbridge and Deposit. The goal of the field trip was to provide the students a chance to experience a special aspect of the NYS Unified Court System.
