Eighth-graders make record players in science class

Eighth-grade students in Michelle Polcaro's science class participated in a fun project today. Using construction paper to create a cone-shaped speaker and then taping a needle near the tip of the cone, the students spun a record on a pencil by hand and then placed the needle on the record. While not exactly high fidelity, the makeshift record players were able to reproduce the sound on the record!
